Description

a- This is a red hardcover book. The book is entitled "A Text-Book on Steam and Steam Engines, including Turbines and Boilers". It was written by Andrew Jamieson and published by Charles Griffin & Company, Limited in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1904. Both of the front and back covers have a plain red surface with decorative debossed lines close to the edges. The spine has gold texts that read "STEAM AND STEAM ENGINES INCLUDING TURBINES AND BOILERS// PROFESSOR JAMIESON// 14th EDITION// J.P.LIPPINCOTT C". There is a paper label affixed to the inside of the front cover. It has printed and hand-written texts on a white background, read "Peterhead Burgh School Board// Continuation Classes, 1905-1906. Prize in Machine Construction 2nd applied mechanics 2nd Awarded to James A. Taylor// D.S. MALCOLM, Convenor. G.AIMER RUSSELL, M.A.,B.Se., F.R.A.S., Headmaster." There is a hand-written signature of "James A Taylor" on the top right of the front page. On the bottom of the same page is a black stamp from the Pump House Steam Museum, and a pencil-written number of "99205098". The front page indicates that this copy is the fourteenth edition of the book. This book covers the latest available information on steam, steam engines, turbines, boilers and superheaters in 1904. It aims to help engineering students learn new technologies in the rapidly-changing industry. There is a folded diagram of the Twin-Screw Triple-Expansion Engines of the S.S. "Arabian" in between page 444 and 445. b- This is a piece of paper with a black front and a cream-coloured back. It is the first page inside the front cover, and it is detached from the spine.
