a- This is a hardcover book entitled "Practical Mechanical Engineering Volume II". The book was edited by Carl S. Dow, who was the technical writer with the B.F. Sturtevant Company. It was published by The American Text-Book Co. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1909. The front cover has red fabric on the middle and black fabric on the left edge, the top and bottom right corners. The back cover has red fabric on the middle, and black fabric on the right edge as well as the top and bottom left corners. The spine has deteriorated, which reveals part of the book binding. On the front page of the book is a hand-written note that reads "Cooksville// James Albert Kitney Christmas 1930 from Walt to Jim". On the first page, there is a black stamp from the Pump House Steam Museum on the top, and a pencil-written number of "99205085" on the bottom right corner. There is a black-and-white photograph of five cross-compound condensing Corliss engines in front of the title page. As Volume II of the series, this book covers information on steam engine accessories, valves, the steam turbine, pumping machinery, marine boilers and engines. The book was written for the operating engineers, firemen, and students to obtain a working knowledge of modern mechanical engineering. b- This is a piece of paper with single-sided, hand-written notes in pencil. The title of the paper is "Feed Water Heater". It describes three practical methods of heating feed water. The paper is tucked in between page 1432 and 1433.
