Description

An intricate wooden butter press made of two attached pieces, a round lid with a small hole in the top and a wide opening at the bottom, and a round press plate with a long cylindrical handle that comes out through the hole in the top of the lid. The bottom of the press plate has a wheat stem design with a large leaf in the middle with numerous smaller leaves attached, and two small thin stems on either side. There are also two thin circular lines around the edges of the press plate. The two pieces move to raise and lower the press plate.

History

The wheatsheaf is an ancient symbol of abundance and fertility of the earth. A staple crop, wheat is durable and a dependable source of income for farmers. A pad of butter stamped with a sheaf of wheat can be a promise of quality and wealth.
