Description

A large wooden mallet with a rectangular head and a cylindrical handle. The head is slightly curved with two flat square striking faces. Two stamps on the handle read "G. DAVIS".

History

Mallets are similar to hammers, but have a bigger head made of rubber, wood or brass. The wider head allows for more weight distribution, so they are less likely to mark or damage wood than other hammers are. Mallets are often used for delicate finishing work, or for hitting chisels and other tools.
