Wooden hollow molding plane comprised of three parts, a rectangular wooden body with a hollow sole profile (a), a wooden wedge piece with a curved design and a hand/finger hold (b), and an iron with a curved blade to match the hollow profile of the plane (c). The wedge (b) and the iron (c) fit together inside of an angled cutout through the plane, and the wedge holds the iron in place as the iron's blade is used. Stamped on the heel of the plane is the number "9", and "WATT". Stamped on the toe of the plane is "SHEPLEY" and "J. MARSHALL".
Hollow molding planes are extremely versatile. They are used to cut concave grooves in any portion of a workpiece. Used alone or in conjunction with other planes, hollow molding planes allow workers to create or adjust any conceivable form.
