A thin wooden hollow plane comprised of three parts, a wooden rectangular shaped body (a), a wooden wedge piece (b), and an iron (c). The iron and the wedge piece fit together inside of the plane's body and extend out of the top of the plane. The wedge holds the iron in place so that the blade's edge can be exposed to the wood beneath the plane. The wood is a dark stained colour. Stamped on the heel edge of the plane is "J. F. GOHN", "I BLOWER", and the number "5". Stamped on the toe edge is " I BLOWER", "S F", and "MUTTER".
Hollow molding planes are extremely versatile. They are used to cut concave grooves in any portion of a workpiece. Used alone or in conjunction with other planes, hollow molding planes allow workers to create or adjust any conceivable form.
