Description

Sash coping plane comprised of three parts, a rectangular body with an angled cutout through the middle, a curved sash profile, and a horizontal piece of wood attached to the top of the plane (a), a wooden wedge that tapers to a point at the bottom and is rounded at the top (b), and an iron with a curved blade to match the sash coping profile on the body of the plane (c). The wedge and the iron fit together inside the plane and the wedge holds the iron in place as it cuts the wood below. Stamped on the toe of the plane is "Rt. FORD", and "I BLOWER". Stamped on the heel of the plane is "Rt. FORD" twice, and "I BLOWER".

History

Sash coping planes are a variety of molding plane used in window making. Sash windowpanes are framed by decorative wood slats. This model is used to shape corner joins and creates a tight finish.
