Description

Wooden hollow molding plane comprised of three parts, a wooden rectangular body with a hollow profile or sole (a), a wooden wedge piece that tapers to a point at the bottom and has a rounded finger hold at the top (b), and an iron with a thin stem that widens at the blade's edge to mirror fit with the body's hollow profile (c). The wedge and the iron fit together in the plane through an angled cutout and extend out of the top of the plane. The wedge holds the iron in place as the blade cuts the wood below. Stamped on the heel of the plane is "I BLOWER". Stamped on the toe is "I BLOWER", and "H. SHARP MAKER".

History

Hollow molding planes are extremely versatile. They are used to cut concave grooves in any portion of a workpiece. Used alone or in conjunction with other planes, hollow molding planes allow workers to create or adjust any conceivable form.
