Hollow molding plane comprised of three parts, a rectangular wooden body with an angled cutout through the middle and a hollow profile on the sole (a), a wooden wedge that tapers to a point at the bottom and has a rounded top (b), and an iron with a blade on the end that is rounded to match the hollow profile of the body (c). The wedge and the iron fit together inside of the plane and extend out of the top. The wedge holds the iron in place as the iron cuts the wood below. Stamped on the toe of the plane is "BROWN", "B. DINWIDD", "JOB-COTTLE", "T. WATKS", and "I BLOWER". Stamped on the heel of the plane is "I BLOWER", and "J. D. THOMAS".
Hollow molding planes are extremely versatile. They are used to cut concave grooves in any portion of a workpiece. Used alone or in conjunction with other planes, hollow molding planes allow workers to create or adjust any conceivable form.
