Description

A wooden hollow molding plane consisting of 3 parts.
a- The body is rectangular and made of a brown hardwood. There is a depression on the top edge directly in front of the wedge. A cheek protrudes slightly from the bottom 2/3 of the front body. A concave groove lines the top edge of the cheek. The throat cuts diagonally through the middle of the body and is exposed through the front of the cheek. The sole is curved convexly along the length. Stamps on the toe read: "S.V.E." below a crown; "JB"; " I BLOWER". Stamps on the heel read: "8"; "7"; "1"; "I BLOWER".
b- the wedge is made of a similar hardwood to the body. It tapers to a point on one end and is squared on the other. a long triangular cutout below the head allows for easy handling. Inscription in pencil reads: "(Jb)?"
c- The iron is a narrow strip of dark grey metal. It abruptly widens near the cutting edge. The top corner of the cutting edge is beveled. The blade is rounded convexly. The width of the cut is 1.0". A stamp on the handle reads "ACIER-FOND?"

History

Hollow molding planes are extremely versatile. They are used to cut concave grooves in any portion of a workpiece. Used alone or in conjunction with other planes, hollow molding planes allow workers to create or adjust any conceivable form.
