a- The first segment of the body is rectangular and made of brown hardwood. A cheek protrudes from the bottom 2/3 of the front body. The throat cuts diagonally through the body just behind the middle. Two holes cut through the body on either side of the throat to hold the screws (g&h). Two dowels stick out of the back face to fit into the other body piece (b). The sole is rounded in a side bead form. A wooden depth stop extends from the front of the sole. Inscriptions are in the description of (b).
b- The second segment of the body is rectangular and made of brown hardwood. A cheek protrudes from the bottom 2/3 of the front body. The throat cuts diagonally through the body just behind the middle. Two holes cut through the body on either side of the throat to hold the screws (g&h). Two shallow holes are cut on the back side to hold the connective dowel from (a). The sole is flat. Stamps on the toe of the body read: "THOs MACHIN/WARRANTED"; "TORONTO"; "I BLOWER". A stamp on the heel reads "I BLOWER".
c- The sash wedge is made of the same hardwood as the body. It tapers to a point on one end and is rounded on the other in an elliptical form. A cut-out below the head allows for easy handling.
d- The sash iron is a narrow strip of dark grey metal. It widens abruptly near the cutting edge. the cutting edge is flat with a single concave curve, or bead. The width of the cut is 3/4".
e- The rabbet wedge is made of the same hardwood as the body. It tapers to a blunt point on one end and is squared on the other. A long cut-out below the head allows for easy handling.
f- The rabbet iron is a narrow strip of grey metal. It widens abruptly near the cutting edge. The cutting edge is flat and slightly angled. The width of the cut is 3/4".
g & h- Two large screws made of hardwood. The top end is rounded and shaped like a doorknob. There is a torus base bordered by a double-fillet. The threaded portion is made of wood and ends in a rounded point. There are 7 threads per inch (TPI).

History

These sash planes are used to build sash window frames. Two blades work simultaneously on a single workpiece. One, the grooving or rabbet iron, cuts a groove for the glass window pane to sit in. The other, the sash or other molding plane, cuts the decorative profile of the window frame. In some cases, the distance between the cutting irons can be adjusted, so the plane can be used for several different projects.
