Large wooden cornice ogee molding plane. The plane is box-shaped with a curved wooden handle on top of the plane by the heel end. The plane is comprised of three parts, the wooden body (a), the wooden wedge piece (b), and the iron (c). The iron and the wedge fit together inside of an angled hollowed out portion of the main wooden body. The wedge holds the iron in place so that only the blade's edge is exposed to the wood beneath. The profile of the plane is a large curved 'S' shaped ogee, as is the iron's edge. Stamped on the heel of the plane is "I BLOWER", and "C. D". Stamped on the toe edge is "I BLOWER", "C.D", and "E. CANTIN".
Ogee molding planes are used to mold the profile of a workpiece. The ogee profile consists of a curve shaped like an 'S', or a double curve inversed around an inflection point. This can be combined with any other detail, like beads or fillets, to create unique ogee profiles. Ogee molding planes can be used to give a sophisticated finish to baseboards, doorways, and furniture trimmings.
