A wooden beading plane consisting of 3 parts.
a- The body is rectangular and made of a brown hardwood. The width is consistent throughout. A bell-shaped mouth cuts through the width on the viewer's right side of the body. The sole is flat with 2 thin strips of wood embedded into it that form a concave curve along the length. Stamps on the heel read: "J.DRYBURGH/BRIGHT,ONT"; "I BLOWER". Stamps on the heel read: "I BLOWER"; "5/16".
b- The wedge is made of the same hardwood as the body. It tapers to a point on one end and is slightly rounded on the other. The top edge is flat with chamfered corners. A cut-out below the head allows for easy handling.
c- THe wedge is a narrow strip of grey metal. It abruptly widens near the cutting edge. The cutting edge is curved concavely in an elliptical form. The width of the cut is 5/16".
A less common variation of the bead plane is the torus bead or the astragal. The difference is that on a regular side bead, the bead is cut with only enough material removed on the inside of the cut, to shape the bead. With the astragal there is extra material removed on the inside of the cut so that the bead stands out.
