Hollow molding plane comprised of three parts, a rectangular wooden body with a hollow profile on the sole (a), a wooden wedge that tapers to a point at the bottom and is rounded on the top (b), and an iron with a rounded blade on the bottom that matches the hollow profile of the body (c). The wedge and the iron fit together inside of the plane and extend out of the top. The wedge holds the iron in place as it cuts the wood below. Stamped on the toe of the plane is "I BLOWER", and "WALLACE MONTREAL". Stamped on the heel is "I BLOWER" and the number "18". There are also stamps on both sides of the iron's stem. On the side that faces the heel of the plane is two "//" symbols, and on the other side is the letter "S". There is also a sticker on the back of the plane that reads "Wallace" drawn in pen or marker, and "KOH-I-NOOR" printed below it. There is also a number "2" written in pencil on the wedge.
Hollow molding planes are extremely versatile. They are used to cut concave grooves in any portion of a workpiece. Used alone or in conjunction with other planes, hollow molding planes allow workers to create or adjust any conceivable form.
