Last, Shoe

A wooden shoe last for a woman's right shoe. The last is constructed in two parts, the forepart that includes the toe, vamp and cone, and that consists of the heel. These pieces are connected by a movable metal hinge in the centre, which allows the heel to be adjusted. The hinge is attached by a metal screw in the back of the heel. The last is oblong in shape, with a rounded toe that widens toward the centre before narrowing at the arch. Carved into the top of the vamp, is the number "43". The bottom of the last is flat in the forepart, and curved in the arch and heel.
