Description

A wooden butter press consisting of a mould lid and a press. The lid is a wide-set cylinder. The top edge is moulded. There is a hole in the middle of the top that houses the press handle. The pressing plate has a circular face and a cylindrical handle. The plate has a negative-relief design of three pinnate leave; possibly fern, ash or walnut leaves. It is surrounded by a simple moulded ring. The handle extends from the back of the plate and ends in an oval bulge that is larger than the hole in the lid, thus ensuring the plate remains attached to the lid.
