Description

Hollow molding plane comprised of three parts, a thin rectangular wooden body (a), a tapered wooden wedge (b), and an iron with a rounded blade (c). The wedge and the iron fit together inside of an angled cutout through the plane's body, and the wedge holds the iron in place as the plane runs across the wood surface below. The plane has a thin decorative carved pattern of what looks like small arrows going around the plane's body horizontally.

History

Hollow molding planes are extremely versatile. They are used to cut concave grooves in any portion of a workpiece. Used alone or in conjunction with other planes, hollow molding planes allow workers to create or adjust any conceivable form.
