Description

A basic crosscut saw made of wood and metal. The wooden handle is a closed pistol handle with two horns. An embedded brass medallion depicts a beaver with the words "WARRANTED/SUPERIOR"; "Pat. Dec/ 31, 1867". The blade is made of a ferrous metal. It tapers toward the free end. There are 10 teeth per inch (TPI).

History

One-handed crosscut saws are the most well-known type of hand saw. It is used to cut across the grain, giving it a smooth, straight finish. A crosscut saw is used at a 45-degree angle to the surface, and cuts on the push stroke.
