Description
A wooden gear shaped mold/mould for a six spoke wheel on a central round hub. The spokes are set an an angle and the mold is painted black. There is a metal label "D-7829-C" on one of the spokes.
History
This mould was used at the Canadian Locomotive Company. Foundries used wooden patterns to cast multiple copies of metal machine parts. The pattern was first buried in sand to create the shape. Molten metal was poured in and workers finished the part with mills and lathes.
