Description

This artifact is a model train set and original box produced by Lionel originally as a 1957 "Girl's Train".
a- A cardboard box with the outside covered in a brown cross-hatch design. The words on the box read "Lionel Trains An Investment in Happiness! Loco With Smoke Lionel Trains 1587S Manufactured and Guaranteed by The Lionel Corporation - New York, N.Y."
b- Toy Transformer: Beige plastic and metal box with a metal switch that can move between OFF and FAST. It has a long plastic electrical cord that is very brittle.
c- Engine: Pink metal train engine with a switch on top that allows to cycle between forward, neutral, and reverse. The plate on the bottom reads, "Lionel 027"
d- Case: Clear square plastic case dived into 12 compartments containing small white discs.
e-m- Small white discs made from a mineral that smokes when in contact with air. Used to make smoke come out of the train's engine.
n- Tender: Pink plastic with metal wheels at each end that pivot and imitation coal on the top. There is a locking mechanism at one end to hook onto other cars.
o- Cannister Car: Pink plastic car with half walls, metal wheels at each end that pivot and a locking mechanism at each end to attach to other cars. On the side, "NYC"
p-s- Canisters: Four yellow plastic, hallow drums with the words "Lionel Air Activated Container" on the sides.
t- Box Car: Yellow plastic with blue sliding doors. It has metal wheels at each end that pivot and a locking mechanism at each end to attach to other cars. On the side is, "M-K-T The Katy"
u- Hopper Car: Grey plastic with metal wheels at each end that pivot and a locking mechanism at each end to attach to other cars. On the side is, "Lehigh Valley"
v- Box Car: Blue/green plastic with yellow sliding doors on either side. It has metal wheels at each end that pivot and a locking mechanism at each end to attach to other cars. On the side is "Pacemaker Freight Service NYC"
w- Caboose: Blue plastic with metal wheels at each end that pivot and a locking mechanism at each end to attach to other cars. On the side, "Pennsylvania 576427"
x- Frame: Clear plastic frame that belongs inside the caboose to act as window glaze.
y- Light Bulb: small glass light bulb mean to go in caboose.
z- Socket: Metal socket for light bulb to go in caboose.
aa- Model Boxes: A single plastic mold made to look like stacked boxes. Beige in colour they would be carried on the flat car.
ab- Flat car: Red with four metal wheels are each end that pivot. There is a locking mechanism at each end to lock it to other cars. The name "6821 Lionel" is on the side.
ac- Mountain: Foam mountain with holes cut at both ends to allow a train to pass through. Painted to look like green and brown vegetation.
ad- Brown wire with a train track attached to it.
ae- A controller panel attached to a piece of black wire.
af- Brown wire with a black Lionel CTC Lockon attached to it.
ag- A white piece of wire with green, yellow, red and black strings coming out on both ends.
ah- A green piece of wire with a black tape on one end.
ai- A piece of two-stranded grey wire with white ends and pieces of black tapes attached to it.
aj- A small plastic bag of 5 AMP. circuit breaker and several metal pieces.
ak- A fan-shaped cap with a threaded inside.
al- A power line post with a round base.
am- Case: yellow square plastic case divided into two compartments.
an- Control Switch: A red button on a black base. It has stamped words of "CONTROL SWITCH NO.90 THE LIONEL CORPORATION NEW YORK. N.Y." on the bottom.
ao- A black rectangular metal piece.
ap- Remote Control Track Section: a black metal piece of track with two screws on the bottom and two pieces of green wires on the side.
aq-df- Tracks: 69 metal pieces of train tracks.
dg-dh- Remote Control Switch: A black metal plate with two pieces of train tracks on the top and three wires (red, green, black) attached to it. The stamped letters on the surface read "LOUIS MARX & Co. INC. 027 REMOTE CONTROL SWITCH".
di- A black cell of electric circuit.
dj- A wooden cylinder with a top.
