Description

This artifact consists of Edwin Horsey's book titled "History of Kingston" and a letter from the librarian of Queen's University to Mr.Horsey. a- This is a red hardcover book. On the front cover, there is the word "Kingston" printed in gold lettering on the top left corner. The name "E.E.Horsey" is printed in gold lettering on the bottom right corner of the front cover. The spine has decorations of embossed lines and debossed diamond shapes. The title on the top part of spine reads "HISTORY OF KINGSTON", and there is the name of "E.E HORSEY" in gold texts on the middle of the spine. The back cover is red, plain, and has embossed decorations on the corners. Inside the book cover, there is a typed letter in black texts on the second page. The letter is from Queen's University Librarian E.C.Kyte to Mr. Horsey, thanking Horsey for sending his book "History of Kingston" as a gift to the University Library, and suggesting Horsey to look for publication opportunities. The letter is dated to May 6, 1936. On the third page is a typed letter from Librarian Kyle to Edwin Horsey, dated to August 19, 1936. Kyle requested to obtain a copy of Horsey's book on behalf of the Queen's University Library, and he included an extract of Dr.Glover's letter for Horsey's consideration. The cover page has words in black texts, read "Cataraqui// Fort Frontenac// Kingston". This book is printed, and has single-sided texts featuring the history of Kingston and its surrounding areas. It is signed by Edwin Horsey on the bottom of the preface, dated to March 1937. b- This is a copy of the letter from E.C.Kyte, the University Librarian to Edwin Horsey on August 19, 1936. The letter is typed and single-sided. Kyle asked for a copy of Horsey's book "History of Kingston". This paper is folded and tucked in between the front cover and the first page of the book.

This book was written by Edwin Horsey. It was donated by Alice Leavitt (nee Horsey) on April 25, 2013.
