This is a coloured photograph of the 27th Governor General of Canada, Michaëlle Jean. It is housed in a wooden frame with brass coloured liner, gold coloured mat and glass front. The half-length portrait features Michaëlle Jean standing in front of an arched door. She wears a black jacket with a red-and-white chest pin that symbolizes her position as the Governor General. On the bottom of the photo, there are printed black texts that read "Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D. Governor General and Commander of Chief of Canada" in both English and French. There is a small text in black lettering on the bottom right side of the photo that reads "photo: Christopher Wahl (2006)". There are two eyelet screws and a picture hanging wire attached to the back of the frame.
Born in Port au Prince, Haiti, Michaëlle Jean and her family fled to Montreal, Quebec, in 1968 while she was still a young girl. After obtaining a Master's degree in comparative literature at the University of Montreal, Madame Jean continued to study language and literature at the University of Florence, the University of Perugia and the Catholic University of Milan. On August 4, 2005, Jean became the Governor General of Canada. She was the first Governor General of Caribbean origin and the third woman Governor General in the Canadian history.
