He wears a formal uniform and poses with his hands resting on the hilt of a sword. The inscription on the bottom in black lettering reads "HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH". The photo is matted on a white paper board.
This photo was taken in 1966 by Yousuf Karsh. Karsh was an Armenian-Canadian photographer, and one of the most famous portrait photographers in history. Born in Mardin, in modern day Turkey, Karsh lived through the Armenian genocide.
