Description

This is a round brown transferware plate. The plate has banding and scroll design around the brim. On the centre of the plate is a quatrefoil-shaped illustration of various municipal buildings in Hamilton, including the Town Hall, the Parish Church, and the Watsons Fountain. There is a circular medallion in the centre of the quatrefoil with words that read "HAMILTON// VIRTUE AND VIGILANCE". Inside the medallion is an image of "The Mausoleum". On the top of the quatrefoil, there is a crest and the words "The Armorial Bearings of Hamilton District Council" in brown lettering. On the bottom of the plate is the manufacturer's mark from Coverswall (Caverswall?) Fine Bone China. It has a text that briefly introduces the history of Hamilton. The words along the rim of the manufacturer's mark are "HAMILTON//VIRTUE AND VIGILANCE".
