Description

This artifact is a set of 17 postcards of photographs, depicting the town of Novgorod in Russia. The postcards are all placed inside a folder. a- This is a paper folder for postcards. On the front cover is a coloured photograph of the domes of Russian architecture. The back cover has a photo featuring the lake view of a Russian landscape with ancient monuments in the background. On the inside of the folder, there is an introduction of Novgorod in both Russian and English. It introduces Novgorod as one of the oldest towns in Russia that is famous for its architectural monuments. b- This is a postcard featuring the Church of St.Nicholas from the village of Tukholya. The building was constructed in the 17th century. c- This is a postcard of the church of the Assumption from the village of Kuritso. The church was built in 1595. d- This is a postcard. It features the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Cross in the Yuriev Monastery. The building was constructed from the 18th to the 19th century. e- This is a postcard of the St.George Cathedral in the Yuriev Monastery. The monastery was built in 1119. f- This is a postcard. It features the Church of the Holy Women in Yaroslav's Courtyard, built in 1510. g- This is a postcard. It displays the view of Yaroslav's Courtyard and the ancient marketplace. h- This is a postcard. It features the Church of Saints Peter and Paul at Kozhevniki, built in 1406. i- This is a postcard. It has the view of the Church of St.Theodore Stratilates on the Brock and the Bell Tower, built in 1360-61. j- This is a postcard. It features the view of the city and the Theodore Tower of the Novgorod Kremlin, which was built from the 15th to the 17th century. k- This is a postcard. It displays the view of the Church of St.Nicholas from the village of Vysoky Ostrov, which was built in 1757. l- This is a postcard. It features the bells by the Belfry of St.Sophia's. The cathedral was built from the 16th to the 19th century. m- This is a postcard. It displays the Cathedral of St.Sophia, built from 1045 to 1050. The monument in front of the cathedral is the Millennium of Russia that was constructed in 1862. n-r- Postcards of Russian monuments and their natural surroundings in Novgorod. There are Russian descriptions on the back of the postcards.
