Description

A sample of a decorative wood carving with round knob in the centre and four leaf-like curved sections forming a square. Framed in a wooden box. Grey brownish paint with red under paint. This design sample was considered for the first floor of City Hall, however, it was not chosen for the rest of the building due to the cost of production.

History

Corner blocks, also known as trim blocks, are decorative elements found in the top corners of door frames. This piece was carved by hand, and other copies can be found framing the 1st floor elevator of City Hall in Kingston. These corner blocks were designed for use around the entire building, but a simpler design was eventually selected for that purpose.
