Description

Circular metal crest mounted on a wooden plaque. The crest has a gold painted edge resembling a rope with three gold maple leaves at the bottom. In the centre there is a red background with a yellow griffin over it holding a gold anchor and standing in a gold crown. At the top of the crest is a gold painted crown with the sterns of three ships in it and two white sails between them. Below the crown is the name "Kingston" in red and yellow. Below the crest at the bottom of the plaque is a metal plate with the words, "Presented by the Commanding Officer and Ship's Crew of HMCS Kingston to Mayor Isabel Turner on September 2nd, 2001".

Heraldic description: Blazon_Badge: Gules a griffin Or armed and langued Azure issuant from a crown vallary Argent holding in its claws an anchor Argent;
Symbolism: Badge_The crown vallary represents the various fortifications built since Kingston’s foundation. The griffin is one of the supporters of the arms of the City of Kingston, a reference to the griffin's claws found in the arms of the Comte de Frontenac, who established a fort on the site of Kingston in 1673. The anchor alludes to the City’s rich naval affiliations. (https://reg.gg.ca/heraldry/pub-reg/project-pic.asp?lang=e&ProjectID=932&ProjectElementID=3376)
