Description

This artifact contains a book titled "Share the Flame, The Official Retrospective book of the Olympic Torch Relay" and a printed letter to Mayor Gerretsen for presenting the book. The book was produced by the Murray-Love Productions Inc. in Vancouver. B.C. in 1988. a- A book with a black plain hard cover and a black flat spine. The red texts on the spine read "Share the Flame" and "Whitecap Murray/Love". Inside the cover, there is a statement of the book produced by Petro-Canada, the sponsor of the Olympic Torch Relay. The book has 224 pages of texts and images, documenting the Olympic Torch relay in Canada in the winter of 1987-1988. The photographs in this book featured Canadians who carried the Olympic flame from all across the country, the natural sceneries as well as civic life in Canada. b- The cream-coloured dust cover of the book.The text on the cover reads "Share the Flame The Official Retrospective book of the Olympic Torch Relay". There is a coloured photograph of a torchbearer running with the Olympic flame, taken by photographer Tibor Bognar. On the inside of the dust cover are an introduction, a photo of the producers and seven short biographies of members from the production team. On the back of the cover, there is a photo of a woman and two children carrying model torches. There are three comments of the Olympic Torch relay from Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, school principal and torch bearer James P. Grieve, and the Maclean's magazine. c- A one-page, single-sided, printed letter from W.H. Hopper and E.M.Lakusta to Mayor J.P.Gerretsen. Hopper is the Chairman and Executive Officer of Petro-Canada, while Lakusta is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Petro-Canada. The letter is written in both English and French, presenting the Mayor with the book "Share the Flame" to commemorate the ceremony of the Olympic Torch Relay. The letter is signed and dated May 18, 1988.
