This is a light aqua coloured squat moulded glass bottle. It consists of a circular body with a slight taper at the base. It has a Codd's Ball Stopper style pinch at the shoulder and neck and with a glass marble inside. On the front are the words " CODDS PATENT // RE-ISS AUG. 13 1878 // R. GOOD & Co. // CODD & Co. 23 PARK ROW // NEW YORK". On the back is a large star with rectangle in centre and "No. 68" inside the rectangle.
In 1872, British soft drink maker Hiram Codd of Camberwell, London, designed and patented a bottle designed specifically for carbonated drinks. The Codd-neck bottle was designed and manufactured to enclose a marble and a rubber washer/gasket so the pressure of the drink seals the bottle.
