This is a small pressed glass medicine type bottle. It is colourless, with a rectangular base and chamfered corners. It has a circular neck and a flat rim. On the front panel there is embossed lettering that reads, "DR. BELLS // MEDICINAL WONDER // KINGSTON, ONT."
Dr. George Wesley Bell was a veterinarian who had a clinic on Brock Street in Kingston beginning around 1900; his business of making and selling veterinary patent medicines began in the United States and continued in while he lived and worked in Kingston, Ontario. Under the business name 'Dr. Bell's Wonder Medicine Company', he patent medicines for farm livestock and pet animals.
In 1936 when the United States Food and Drug Administration accused Dr. Bell’s Wonder Medicine Company of “misbranding.” Bottles were seized and analyzed under the Food and Drug Act. Labelled at 40 per cent alcohol, the tests concluded the mixture contained between 63 per cent and 65 per cent per bottle.
