Description

A certificate on a cream coloured piece of paper. It is the "Certificate of Appreciation" to the City of Kingston from the headquarters of the 1st Battalion 502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), displaying gratitude of the city's hospitality to the soldiers. On the top left and right corners are the coloured shields of the battalion. In the centre of the certificate is the coat of arms of the 502nd Infantry. It consists of an eagle carrying a blue shield of the eagle's claw on the chest, a green branch in the proper right claw, and arrows in the proper left claw. The motto reads "FIRST STRIKE". Below the coat of arms, the stylized black words read "Certificate of Appreciation is awarded to HONORABLE JOHN P. GERRSTSEN/CITIZENS OF KINGSTON". This certificate is signed by Peter N.Dimercuro, LTC, In. The certificate was given to the City of Kingston on June 23, 1987 at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.
