Description

a- A steam engine indicator. An instrument for obtaining a diagram of the pressure-volume or pressure-time changes in a steam engine or compression cylinder during the working cycle. It is comprised of two metal cylinders that are connected. It has a valve, a spring, and a pulley attached to it. It has the words "BACHARACH PITTSBURGH. PA. SER NO. 53328 MADE IN U.S.A." stamped into the side. b- A small round pipe with a wooden handle coming out of the side. The two ends of the pipe are threaded. c- A grey metal case that is rectangular with internal fittings and hook fastenings. It has several wooden parts attached to the inside to hold on to parts of the instrument, some of which are lined with green felt. It has a small label on the top inside of the lid that says "BACHARACH INDUSTRIAL INSTRUMENT CO. PITTSBURGH. PA." d- A pad of paper that says on one side "CODE 9873770 M.D. 144 MOTER SHIP INDICATOR CARD. CARDS MUST BE TAKEN UNDER NORMAL RUNNING CONDITIONS, ONE SET OF DIAGRAMS (WORKED OUT) TO BE SENT TO IMPERIAL OIL LIMITED MARINE DEPT., 56 CHURCH ST., TORONTO EVERY SEA PASSAGE EXCEPT WHEN SAME IS UNDER TWO DAYS" and the reverse side says "M.S___ DATE___ MEAN DRAFT___ ENGINE No___ CYL. DIA. CYL.___ SPRING___ M.E.P.___ I.H.P.___ R.P.M___". e- the cardboard base for the pad of paper. f- A small oiler, that has an oval on each side. The bottom says "MADE IN U.S.A." g- A metal tool, comprised of a round end and a metal rod with a hollow end. The round end has a hole in it that runs perpendicular to the metal rod. It has "BACHARACH" stamped into the side. h- A metal tool, shaped like a Latin cross with a square base. It has "BACHARACH" stamped into the side. i- A small metal double sided open end wrench. One side is larger than the other. j-l- small springs. Parts j and k have a thick metal base, while part l is made from a smaller gauge of metal wire, and does not have a base. Parts j and k have "1AT = 3 MM MAX 16 AT PISTON 1:1 1 INCH=120 MAX 240 PSI PISTON 1:1 MADE USA" stamped into the base. m-o- Three small metal pulleys. They all are the same size, and are entirely metal. p- A small flathead screwdriver with a blue plastic handle. q- A small tool with a black plastic cap on one end and a threaded metal end on the other. r- A thin metal Allan key. s- A teardrop shaped metal piece with a metal wire hooked into one end of it and a cord tied to the other end of it. t- A small piece of wire, hooked at the end. u- a small piece of wire, knotted over itself. v- A small flat piece of metal, with three holes that have been punched through it. w-x- The main body and lid to a small metal container. It is pill shaped, with a textured metal lip in the centre. y-ag- Very small metal screws, which are located in parts w and x.
