Description

a- An engine indicator, a brass instrument for obtaining a diagram of the pressure-volume or pressure-time changes in a steam engine or compression cylinder during the working cycle. It is comprised of two cylinders, with several valves and handles coming off of the side. Engraved on the part between the cylinders is "PAUL GARNIER PARIS SYSM MARTIN BTE S.C.D.G. 470." One of the cylinders has "470" stamped into it. The other has "PAUL GARNIER PARIS" in an oval. b- The wood case for the Engine Indicator. The case is rectangular with brass hinges and internal fittings, with a metal handle and hook fastenings. The handle is on the side. The inside has several wood pieces topped with green felt to hold the parts of the engine indicator. The number "470" is engraved into one such wood piece on the inside of the lid. c- A metal turnbuckle attached to a piece of wood with cord. The turnbuckle has a threaded hook on one end, a handle, and a loop on the other end which has a cord tied to it. The cord is also tied to a piece of wood. The wood has a red varnish on one side, and dark paint on the other. There are four holes in the wood that the cord is looped through. It is tied in a knot at one end of the wood. The knot has one large loop and a single string that is tied in a know at the end. d- A small wooden ruler. It is a finished light wood. It has two scales on it. One labelled "MILLI METRES" goes from 0-100 in increments of 10. The one labelled "KILOGRAMS" goes from 0-16 in increments of 1. The ruler also says "6 MILLI = 1 KILO" in the upper left corner, and "PAUL GARNIER PARIS" in an oval on the right side. e- A small wooden ruler. It is a finished light wood. It has two scales on it. One side goes from 0-10 in increments of 1. The other goes from 0-5 in increments of one. The ruler says "20 MILLI = 1 KILO" and "PAUL GARNIER PARIS" on the front. f- A small wooden ruler. It is a finished light wood. It has two scales on it. One is labelled "MILLIMETRES" and goes from 1-100 in increments of 10. The other side is labelled "KILOGRAMS" and goes from 0-6 in increments of 1. The front also says "15 MILLI = 1 KILO" in the upper left corner and "PAUL GARNIER PARIS" in an oval on the right side. g- A metal cap. It has a smooth top and a threaded inside. There are ridges along the edge of the cap. The number 470 is stamped on the inside. h- A small piece of wood with three holes in it. The ends are narrower than the middle. i- A thin metal hook. One end is blunt, the other has a hook and tapers to a point. j- A piece of paper. One side has a typed text on it that says "Paul Garnier No 470 Paris L Tap 1 Brass Cap 1 Turnbuckle 3 Wood Pulleys 2 Power Springs 1 Small Hook 1/5 Scale in m/m 1/15 Scale in m/m 1/20 Scale in m/m 1/6 Spring m/m 1/15 Spring m/m 1/20 Spring m/m". Embossed at the bottom of the of the paper is "ROYAL B_ IN CANADADA" with an R in a crest of maple leaves. k- A small dark metal piece, bent into a tube shape. It doesn't fully meet together, creating a line of space along the side of the tube. l- A piece of cord. One end has frayed into two distinct pieces. m-ay- A blank piece of paper.
