Description

A shield shaped wooden plaque with the plastic coat of arms of the Royal Ulster Constabulary mounted on it. The crest has red, green and black vertical bars with the shape of Ireland mounted on top covered in clovers. There is a gold coloured oval shape on top of the image of Ireland. The gold shape has the words "Royal Ulster Constabulary" on the outer ring and a crown at the top. Above the crest is a gold coloured band with the words "WIDOWS ASSOCIATION" in black lettering. On the back of the plaque, there is a circular black plastic piece that reads "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" at the top. On the bottom of the back is a gold coloured paper label, reads "HERALDIC SHIELDS// PAINTED BY HAND// LEBRETT NECKWEAR// 59 LEIGH HALL ROAD// LEIGH ON SEA// ESSEX, ENGLAND SS9 1QZ".

History

The R.U.C. George Cross Widows’ Association was formed in 1980 to promote, through their affinity with each other, health, leisure and companionship for Police Widows’. The primary aim of the Association is to improve the quality of life for the widows and their families. The Royal Ulster Constabulary was the police force in Northern Ireland from 1922 to 2001.
