Description

A freestanding three-dimensional Inuit sculpture of a polar bear carved out of a single piece of whalebone. The bear is standing on its hind legs, with its torso twisted slightly to the left and leaning slightly forward. The bear's left foreleg is stretched straight out to the left, while its right foreleg is curled in towards its chest; the bear's head is twisted around to the back over its left shoulder. The position of the bear gives the impression that it is dancing. The carving is bolted to a roughly square, stained and polished hardwood.
