A birds-eye view of Kingston from the heights of Barriefield to the east, taken from the publication 'Picturesque Canada' of 1882. In the foreground is a grassy expanse with a few bushes on its edge; in the middle ground below the hill is an area of open water in a bay with a log raft, and beyond that the flats below Barriefield with a few homes and outbuildings. In the distant middle ground several different types of vessels ply the waters at the entrance to the Cataraqui River and Rideau Canal, with the Cataraqui Bridge (Penny Bridge) just visible beyond the end of lower Barriefield. The skyline of Kingston is in the far distance, with the identifiable silhouettes of several large buildings. "O'Brien" is in the print in the lower left corner. "KINGSTON FROM BARRIEFIELD." Printed in black below the image at centre; "656" laterally in the upper right corner.
