A battle scene that depicts a representation of a skirmish during the Upper Canada Rebellion (1836-37), on boats on the St. Lawrence River among the Thousand Islands. In the left and right foreground on a body of water are two large rowboats filled with British sailors and soldiers as well as Canadian militia. The boat on the right is firing on a sailboat filled with people in the middle ground with a small cannon. There is a second sailboat in the right background, and small islands beyond. "Coke Smythe" is faintly in the lower left corner. "ENGAGEMENT IN THE THOUSAND ISLANDS" is in black in the print at the lower right corner.
