Description

A landscape depicting the old Cataraqui Bridge (aka the Penny Bridge), looking from Kingston towards Barriefield. In the foreground is an expanse of smooth water with a small sailboat upon it; in the middle ground is the bridge, extending from left to right across the composition, the swing portion of the bridge and the toll booth towards the left side, and telegraph poles extending along its length; on the far right is the east shore, with the tower of St. John's Anglican Church in Barriefield just visible at the top of the hill. The upper half of the composition consists of a light blue sky.
