Description

A large wooden jack plane consisting of 3 parts.
a- The body is a rectangular prism made of a light brown hardwood. A large throat cuts diagonally through the body just ahead of centre. There is a wooden curved handle on the top side of the body near the heel. The sole is flat. A faded stamp on the toe reads "...A../..SO...".
b- The wedge is made of the same hardwood as the body. It is wide-set and tapers slightly toward the top and bottom. The top edge is flat and the bottom splits into two prongs separated by a gap. The proper left prong is broken off.
c- The iron is made of two wide-set strips of ferrous metal secured together by a slotted screw. The top corners of each strip are chamfered. There is a stamp on the top front side that reads "W. MARPLES & SONS/HIBERNIA/WARRANTED CAST STEEL". A stamp on the smaller strip reads "WARRANTED/STEEL".
