Description

A spokeshave made of a dark brown hardwood. The centre portion is framed at the bottom by a brass plate. A grey metal wide-set blade sits above the brass. On the opposite side, two nuts go through the wood and secure the blade. Two wooden handles extend out to the left and right.

History

A spokeshave consists of a frame with two handles and a central blade. The tool is used to shave off thin layers of material. It is used either by pushing or pulling the blade along the grain of the workpiece. The spokeshave is named for its original use of making and refining spokes for wheels.
