Description

A wooden sash ovolo plane consisting of 3 parts.
a- The body is rectangular and made of a light brown hardwood. A cheek protrude from the bottom hald of the front body. The bottom back edge extends down to create a fence. The sole is curved concavely along the length and is framed by a fillet on either side.
b- The wedge is made of the same hardwood as the body. It tapers to a blunt point on one end and is rounded on the other. A cut-out below the head allows for easy handling.
c- The iron is a narrow strip of grey metal. It abruptly widens near the cutting edge. The cutting edge consists of a concave curve framed by straight diagonal edges. The width of the cut is 3/4".

History

These sash planes are used to build sash window frames. They are used to cut decoartive profiles and for joining work. The term 'ovolo' refers to the quarter-circle shape of the cutting iron.
