Description

A rabbet plane in the form of a wooden spokeshave.
a- The body is made of hardwood. The piece is curved along the front edge and flat at the back. There are two curved handles extending out from the left and right sides. There is a large hole in the centre shaped like an arch. There is a strip of darker hardwood running horizontally through the middle of the piece, as well as at the very top of the body and handles. There is a hole in the back edge lined with metal. 2 stamps on the back side read "T SMETHURST". 2 stamps read "I BLOWER".
b- The cutting iron is a short bar of metal with a square cross section. It widens on the left and right near the cutting edge, which curves toward the front and ends in a flat edge.
c- A metal piece that secures the cutting iron to the body. On one end, it is threaded like a screw. The other side is shaped like an arch, with a square hole in the centre through which the cutting iron sits. The screw end goes through the hole in the body (a).
d- A metal wing nut. It it used to secure the screw (c) on the opposite side of the body.
