Description

A wooden rectangular shaped humane mousetrap. The mousetrap has a brown leather handle attached to the top by two metal nails. The two entrances into the trap are indentical in construction and are located in opposite corners diagonally across from each other. They contain a wooden ramp that uses a seesaw lever that is attached to a central pivot. The mouse would climb up the lever and into the trap, once stepping off, the opposite end lowers due to a weighted end. This traps the mouse, preventing them from exiting the way they came in. The two ends of the trap are constructed with metal bars that are placed closely together and the two sides are constructed of wood. There is one door into the trap that is located at the side, the door is made of wood and can be secured shut by a wooden latch. The door would be used to place bait in the trap and remove the mouse once caught.

History

This is an example of an early humane mousetrap that was made by a skilled yet non-professional woodworker and a trap made entirely of wood and wire.
