Description

This is a circular brass steam pressure gauge. The gauge has a brass casing, a movable metal arrow and no glass front. It was manufactured by James Morrison Brass Mfg Co. in Toronto. The measurements on the gauge are from 0 to 120 LBS and from 0 to 280 for the height of water in feet. The manufacturers' information is on the surface of the gauge, which reads "THE KINGSTON WATER WORKS// WATER// J.MORRISON MAKER TORONTO." On the front of the bronze casing below the gauge face, there are two screws and a threaded end.

History

The James Morrison Brass Mfg Co. was founded in Toronto in 1864. The business prospered and relocated in 1972 to a larger premises on Adelaide Street West. In addition to brass foundling and finishing, the company did business in engineers, steamfitters, plumbers and gas fitters' supplies. In 1930, the company was acquired by the Equitable Securities Corporation of Montreal and Toronto, becoming the Morrison Brass Corporation. At the time it was one of four Canadian companies making cast iron, steel and brass valves, high quality brass and bronze for pulp and paper plants, locomotive and marine equipment, plumbing, heating products, and gauges for steam, air and water.
